Anatomy of Friendship: Platonic Intimacy.
已收聽A couple of weeks ago, I talked about The Friend Breakup and it sparked a lot of conversation. There are literally over a thousand comments beneath my various social media posts, and I have since received hundreds of DMs from people wanting to share their story. Is it Ever Ok to Comment on a Person's Size?
已收聽As I've talked about ad nauseam, with the exception of the last 10 years, I literally cannot remember a time in my life when I was not told to lose weight. Loneliness.
已收聽"[Loneliness] is associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, stroke, depression, anxiety, and premature death. The mortality impact of being socially disconnected is similar to that caused by smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day, and even greater than that associated with obesity and physical inactivity." -U.S. Surgeon General's Advisory (2023). This week, Joanne tackles the subject of loneliness and wonders whether she can "fake out" the nation's current epidemic in the same way she tried to outsmart her imposter syndrome. Faking Out Imposter Syndrome
已收聽"You need to create a 'Joanne 2.0,' a Joanne that pretends that she knows she deserves to be there as much as everyone else." I imagined donning the guise of a totally "new" Joanne--one who was confident, made people laugh, strode into rooms with her shoulders back and her gaze straight. Only, it wouldn't really be a "new" me so much as a "fake" me, like a character in a sitcom. Cassey Ho: Design For Success
已收聽Meet Cassey Ho, the founder and creator of not one, but two powerhouse fitness brands: Blogilates and PopFlex, both of which were born out of Cassey’s stint as a certified pilates instructor back in the late 2000s. Discover how what started out as a way to pay the bills, soon turned into a community numbering in the tens of millions, and now, two 8 figure businesses. Cassey was born a leader, but the thing I love about her is that she completely upends the stereotype that often adheres to women in a position of power. That we must be unapproachable, aloof, even a bit of a bully, and that it is a business no-no to wear our hearts on our sleeves. This was definitely the message I received—explicitly and implicitly—when I was trying to make partner at the Firm. But Cassey doesn’t buy into that—at all. She is openly emotional, about the triumphs and the losses, and she has leaned into that quality without a trace of artifice. In so doing, she has proven that success does NOT require you to be who you aren’t.…

Gut Health with Dr. Robynne Chutkan
已收聽Meet Dr. Robynne Chutkan, one of the country’s most recognizable gastroenterologists and the veritable Queen of Gut! The author of four books on the microbiome (including my personal favorite--The Microbiome Solution), Dr. Chutkan is a graduate of Yale and Columbia College, has served on the faculty at Georgetown Hospital since 1997, and was once short-listed as a candidate for the U.S. Surgeon General's office. Dr Chutkan’s philosophy is based on uncovering and remediating the root cause of digestive distress, which is often the result of damage to the microbiome from excessive antibiotics, acid blockers, immunosuppressive drugs, and a suboptimal diet. Her work has had an immense impact on my life and it's an absolute thrill to share this highly informative conversation with all of you. The Brutal Cost of the Second Amendment.
已收聽Earlier this week, like you, I was horrified to read yet another headline about yet another mass murderer armed with yet another AR-15 semi-automatic rifle destroying the lives and families of yet another round of needless victims. A 6-year old boy lost his mother, father, and 3-year old brother. A young mother is currently lying unconscious in a hospital bed. When she wakes up, she will learn that her 8-year old and 11 -year old daughters were killed. I'm sick of these stupid headlines. I'm sick of the helplessness I feel every time this happens. I'm sick of how quickly politicians move to gaslight what, by now, can only be described as a national epidemic of chronic grief. Because that is exactly what this is--we are in a state of constant grief. Unlike normal grief, we are never allowed respite from our mourning. Rather, We are forced to endure 208 mass shootings in less than half a year. We have been terrorized by the slaughter of 15,038 human beings in less than half a year. We are being conditioned to…

There are people who view plastic surgery as a tool to make surface level corrections only, like a bandaid over a paper cut, a bit of concealer over a pimple.
